Greetings!
The Purpose of the Image Awards is to recognize students, faculty, and community members who have shown exemplary commitment to social justice, diversity, and equality in the Athens- Clark County community. This year the theme is Persevering to Honor Our Legacy. Contribution Historically, the National Association of Colored People has worked tirelessly to improve economic, political, social, and educational conditions for people of color for over a century. The UGA Chapter of NAACP is charged with carrying out the same mission both on the University of Georgia campus and in the Athens community. Our chapter has a rich history and legacy, having been named the number two youth chapter in the nation in 2006, and the top youth chapter in the U.S 2007. Our chapter is comprised of student leaders who work, not only for the advancement of people of color, but also for people and organizations throughout the campus. This year alone, we’ve hosted an array of events including voter registration drives and a unity barbeque for students. Because executing an event of such magnitude requires resources, we would like to extend to you the opportunity to join the NAACP by purchasing an advertisement for the image awards.
